Bachelor program Cybersecurity now also completely in English

In the winter semester 2021/2022, Saarland University will, for the first time, offer its bachelor's degree program in Cybersecurity entirely in English. The scientists of CISPA very much welcome the decision to provide the subject Cybersecurity in German and English now. They contribute their expertise substantially to the teaching of this course and regard it as strengthening the international profile of the location. The bachelor's degree program in computer science will also be available entirely in English starting in the winter semester.  

"We are one of the world's leading research centers in the field of cybersecurity and thus already have a major pull. Adding a bachelor's degree program fully in English to the university's cybersecurity offerings will make the location even more attractive to students from Germany and abroad," says Prof. Dr. Christian Rossow. He is a senior scientist at the CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security and the professor responsible for the bachelor's program at Saarland University. "Through the new orientation, we are enabling non-German-speaking students to receive an excellent education in the field of cybersecurity. We hope that this opportunity, which is unique in Germany, will help to reduce the shortage of skilled workers in the industry and further strengthen research in Germany and thus also in Saarland," said Rossow. 

The CISPA scientist also welcomes the decision to teach computer science entirely in English. "English-only bachelor's degree programs in the field of computer science also strengthen the location. Both CISPA and the computer science department at Saarland University have an international character. The positive experience here can now already be incorporated into the bachelor's degree programs," explains Rossow.  

The content of the course reflects the current state of cybersecurity research. Several internationally renowned researchers also contribute to this. From the CISPA Helmholtz Center, the current 22 senior scientists and other researchers contribute to the degree program. "Cybersecurity is already one of the defining issues today - whether political, economic, or social. By intensifying the training of excellent security experts in this way, we are thus making an important contribution to society and having an impact from Saarland to the whole world," says Rossow. Those who prefer to begin their studies in German can still enroll in the cybersecurity degree program, which has been in existence since 2014. 

The English-language degree program has limited admission. Applications for the winter semester 2021/22 are possible via the university portal from April 30 to July 30, 2021. All further information on the study program at https://cysec.uni-saarland.de/bachelor/cybersecurity.
