The CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security in Saarbrücken is one of the world's leading research centers in the field of cyber security. It's mission is to achieve leading-edge international research results and to bring these results to extensive societal value creation through excellence-led transfer.
The international venture capitalist Sustainable & Invest GmbH from Frankfurt has recognized the enormous economic potential of the research carried out at CISPA and has decided to expand its portfolio by setting up a CISPA venture capital fund of 50 million euros for IT security.
On Wednesday, March 16, CISPA CEO and founding director Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Michael Backes and Dr. Peter Memminger as associate of Sustainable & Invest GmbH signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on this enormous commitment.
The privately held capital of the CISPA Venture Capital Fund will enable the multitude of current and future CISPA startups to advance their visions and innovative ideas, enabling them to successfully transfer the excellent research at CISPA to industry and society on a large scale. "The establishment of a dedicated venture capital fund for CISPA in this impressive amount clearly underlines the enormous actual and societal potential of our research," said Prof. Michael Backes. "I am very pleased to see how our strategy to make a significant economic contribution to the structural transformation of the entire region through our cutting-edge research is paying off piece by piece. We are looking forward to the collaboration with our new partner." This statement is echoed by Dr. Peter Memminger: "The research at CISPA is a gem for any venture capitalist. We are proud to go on this journey together with CISPA, and we look forward to fully supporting CISPA startups on their journey through our investment."
