CISPA CYSEC LAB

The CISPA Cysec Lab combines CISPA’s school activities with highly interactive workshops, events with demonstrators and escape rooms. The target groups range from primary school children (eight years and older), high school students and teachers to the general public. 

The CISPA Cysec Lab coordinates our outreach programs, which are designed to spark young people’s interest in computer science and cybersecurity research. It offers, among other things, half and full day workshops for students from grade 7 onward, as well as further training for teachers and trainee teachers. There are also regular working groups for particularly interested and talented students.

CITIZEN SCIENCE

In our citizen-science projects, we give students and interested members of the public an insight into the reality of cybersecurity research.

In the course of a project, participants carry out designated tasks, making valuable contributions to our research - and learning many things about cybersecurity in the process. If you have any questions, please contact us at citizen-science@cispa.de.

SCIENCE EVENTS AND FAIRS

The CISPA Cysec Lab regularly participates in science festivals. One example is Explore Science, one of the biggest science festivals in Germany, where visitors can participate actively and get hands-on experience. We have attended this event for three years in a row. Similar events, such as the Berlin ScienceWeek, complement our annual activities. As part of our strategy, we also attend international events, such as Baltic Council Fairs, where we showcase our digital CISPA Cysec Lab workshops, linking them to the cybersecurity programs offered by Saarland University in collaboration with CISPA.

CISPA LOVES IGB-Event

In 2023, we engaged with more than 1,000 workshop participants and over 50,000 visitors who attended our events. CISPA regularly hosts events for a general audience, such as the Cybersecurity summer in 2018, the French-German outreach event in 2019, as well as several open door events between 2017 and 2022. Recently, we introduced a new format named “CISPA loves IGB”, with 5,000 visitors in September 2023, which is dedicated to the latest research topics in cybersecurity and AI. The festival featured talks, workshops by CISPA researchers as well as interactive exhibits by the CISPA Cysec Lab. In June, 2025 the event returned for its second edition.

PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE

CISPA's institutional collaborations reflect the diversity of our professional exchange with renowned research centers and universities.

LEIBNIZ UNIVERSITY HANNOVER

CISPA established a close partnership with Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) in 2020, focusing on cutting-edge research in Industrial and Usable Security. Two CISPA research groups are now based in Hanover. In 2023, the state of Lower Saxony had the cooperation evaluated, confirming outstanding, highly significant research performance.

SAARLAND UNIVERSITY

Saarland University (UdS) is internationally recognized for its cutting-edge computer science research. It is home to the renowned Saarland Informatics Campus. CISPA maintains a long-standing partnership with the university, closely collaborating in teaching, research, and joint initiatives. Together, CISPA and the UdS offer three Cybersecurity degree programs (one Master’s and two Bachelor’s courses).

TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF DORTMUND

TU Dortmund is known for its strong research focus and internationally recognized academic achievements. in 2023, CISPA partnered with TU Dortmund and established a branch on campus to intensify collaboration in key research areas. The cooperation includes joint research and teaching activities, supervision of PhD candidates, and lays the groundwork for future joint professorial appointments.

UNIVERSITY OF HAMBURG

As a University of Excellence, the University of Hamburg is one of Germany’s outstanding universities. The aim of this partnership is to further increase the scientific excellence of both organizations, to develop and expand regional competence networks in research, teaching and training of young scientists, and to strengthen cybersecurity in the national context.

TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF MUNICH

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) has held the title of University of Excellence continually since 2006. In 2024, CISPA and TUM launched a strategic partnership, paving the way for collaboration in research and teaching. The cooperation includes joint appointments as well as a strong focus on the training of PHD students.
