Critical infrastructures such as cellular networks, power grids, and public transport systems are becoming increasingly digitized. In the age of cyber warfare, securing such systems against remote hacks and attacks is one of the most pressing challenges we face as a society today. Our group is developing efficient and provably secure cryptography such as digital signatures and other types of cryptographic protocols that lie at the heart of many modern digital systems. Our research also focuses on how to apply these newly developed tools to make distributed systems such as the above more secure and scalable. To this end, we are exploring the applications of cutting-edge cryptography to classical problems from distributed computing, such as consensus and clock synchronization.
