Prof. Dr. Jilles Vreeken ist tenured Faculty am CISPA Helmholtz-Zentrum für Informationssicherheit, wo er die Gruppe für explorative Datenanalyse leitet. Darüber hinaus ist er Honorarprofessor für Informatik an der Universität des Saarlandes, Fellow der ELLIS Society und Fakultätsmitglied der ELLIS Unit Saarbrücken. Seine Forschungsinteressen umfassen kausale Inferenz, maschinelles Lernen und Data Mining. Sein besonderes Interesse gilt der Entwicklung fundierter Theorien und effizienter Methoden zur Gewinnung von Erkenntnissen aus Daten und Modellen. Er ist Autor von über 130 Konferenz- und Zeitschriftenbeiträgen, erhielt drei Best Paper Awards, zwei Lehrpreise, den ACM SIGKDD 2010 Doctoral Dissertation Runner-Up Award und den IEEE ICDM 2018 Tao Li Award for Excellence in Research.
Er promovierte 2009 an der Universiteit Utrecht, die Niederlande, in Informatik. Von 2009 bis 2013 war er Postdoktorand der Forschungsstiftung Flandern (FWO) an der Universität Antwerpen. Bevor er 2018 zu CISPA kam, war er unabhängiger Forschungsgruppenleiter am DFG-Exzellenzcluster für Multimodales Computing und Interaktion (MMCI) der Universität des Saarlandes und Senior Researcher am Max-Planck-Institut für Informatik.
