Prof. Dr. Jilles Vreeken ist Dozent am CISPA Helmholtz-Zentrum für Informationssicherheit, wo er die Arbeitsgruppe Explorative Datenanalyse leitet. Darüber hinaus ist er Ehrenprofessor an der Universität des Saarlandes. Seine Forschungsinteressen umfassen causal inference, maschinelles Lernen und Data Mining. Sein besonderes Interesse gilt der Entwicklung fundierter Theorien und effizienter Methoden für das unüberwachte Lernen von informativen und idealerweise kausalen Modellen aus Daten. Er hat 3 Buchkapitel und über 110 Konferenz- und Zeitschriftenbeiträge verfasst. Er erhielt drei Auszeichnungen für die beste Arbeit, den ACM SIGKDD 2010 Doctoral Dissertation Runner-Up Award und den IEEE ICDM 2018 Tao Li Award.
Seinen Doktortitel in Informatik erwarb er 2009 an der Universiteit Utrecht. Zwischen 2009 und 2013 war er als Post-Doc an der Universität Antwerpen tätig, unterstützt durch ein Post-Doc-Stipendium der Forschungsstiftung Flandern (FWO). Bevor er 2018 zu CISPA kam, war er Leiter (W2) der Unabhängigen Forschungsgruppe für Explorative Datenanalyse am DFG-Exzellenzcluster für Multimodales Computing und Interaktion (MMCI) an der Universität des Saarlandes. Zwischen 2013 und 2022 war er Senior Researcher am Max-Planck-Institut für Informatik.
